Part One: Private Sector Projects

Financial Services Planning. A financial services firm was facing major risks and challenges in its future marketplace as a result of government regulations, technology change, globalization, cost pressures and non-traditional competition. The stakes were high for this firm and its owners. We were contracted to help the firm form a strategy that would serve their owners well no matter how the industry evolved over the next 5-10 years.

The top twenty people in the organization participated in the effort in which we:

  • Defined the drivers of change in the securities industry;
  • Constructed four plausible scenarios that included the whole range of threats and opportunities that might present themselves;
  • Created core strategies that would be effective in the full range of possibilities;
  • Prepared contingency strategies for future conditions that would require them; and
  • Identified immediate actions to begin implementation of the strategies

As the strategy process neared completion, it became apparent to the CEO of the firm that he could face Board opposition to some of his strategies. He asked us to facilitate a two-day workshop for his entire Board (taking over two days of his three-day annual board meeting) to build their support for the strategy. That workshop reinforced the urgency of the project findings and effectively expedited implementation of the strategies and related action plans.
