Indicative Scenario Planning ProjectsProject DescriptionsPart One: Private Sector ProjectsMotor Vehicle Industry: Scenario Planning for North America and Global Market Positioning. The client is one of the world’s largest corporations and a full-range global manufacturer of automobiles and trucks. It is also one of the world’s largest financial services organizations. The firm’s mission is to provide vehicle transportation for businesses and consumers worldwide. The Futures Group worked for this firm for more than a decade and, while there were two distinct scenarios projects, they actually blended into one another. The first project (in hindsight) was a test by the firm of scenario planning. The project was tightly focused on new products in the North American market. The second scenario project was global in outlook and explored the full range of possible transportation environments over the next ten to fifteen years. The second set of global scenarios was used far more frequently within the client company. Uses included: general business portfolio planning (including the balance between developed and developing market investment priorities), new product and service ideas, the “stress testing” of ideas already in the pipeline (for potential modifications), new technology investment for the Power Train Division, and multi-year senior executive training within the firm’s “internal university” – the executive development center. |
