Patrick Marren

Principal, The Futures Strategy Group

Patrick Marren is a consultant in the areas of strategy and business intelligence. He has 24 years' experience in business strategy consulting, corporate finance, strategic planning, business intelligence, sales and marketing strategy, financial forecasting and budgeting, and insurance underwriting for four international companies. Mr. Marren is a principal of the Futures Strategy Group. He was previously associated with The Futures Group and Deloitte Consulting.

As senior consultant at The Futures Group, and then as an associate of Deloitte Consulting, Mr. Marren played a leading role in both scenario-based strategic planning engagements and business intelligence projects for governmental, military, and intelligence institutions, and industry leaders in information technology, transportation, finance, manufacturing, health care, utilities, and food ingredients.

He has given numerous speeches and authored many articles, including “The Migrating Locus of Strategy,” from the 2005 Journal of Business Strategy; “Futurists’ Fallacies,” from the 2003 Handbook of Business Strategy; “Why Peter Drucker Is Wrong About the Future,” lead article in the 1998 Handbook of Business Strategy; and “The Death of the Hierarchical Organization,” the lead article in the 1997 Handbook. He has a regular column, “Alternative Strategies,” in the Journal of Business Strategy. He has lectured at the graduate business school of Rensselaer Polytechnic-Hartford, as well as at the Gilad-Herring Academy of Competitive Intelligence.

Mr. Marren has an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and an AB, cum laude, General Studies, with a Government concentration, from Harvard University. He speaks, reads, and writes Greek.
