  Lodestar helps clients make choices
  Here is Lodestar’s premise: Modern enterprises must make strategic choices with an eye to the future. Yet increasingly they make choices on the basis of data-driven modeling. These models are built with reference to what has happened, and are inescapably backward looking. And yet they’re used to plan for the future. That increases the probability of missed opportunities, misdirected resources and blindside risk.
 
  Resilient Governance is a structured process
  The process begins by understanding the assumptions—and the interaction among them—that drive choices. This yields an outside-in perspective of where an organization sees itself relative to forces for change—business risk, financial uncertainty, shifting market preferences and many other externalities.

An enterprise using this process is ready for immersion in alternative-futures planning (AFP). The objective of AFP is not to pick a most likely scenario. The objective is to expand the resiliency of a business model to manage shocks and seize opportunities across a range of plausible operating environments. Organizations like Pfizer, IBM, NASA and the US Coast Guard will attest to its power.
 
  More than a peek over the horizon
  Too often in the course of strategy development insufficient thought is given to the back end of the work—the coherence between where the organization determines it wants to go and what it does to get there. To assure this coherence, the final segment of a Resilient Governance engagement—the implementation phase—is the “inside-out” work of institutionalizing a new context for decision making and the execution of core strategies. It is a new context for governance. A central element of this work is the development of a custom dashboard that:

  • Assesses the fitness of a talent pipeline for an organization’s design for growth
