Thomas J. Buckley

Principal, The Futures Strategy Group

Tom Buckley is a principal of the Futures Strategy Group, LLC (FSG). He has more than 13 years experience in scenario-based strategic planning, business planning, technical requirements development, process analysis and improvement, and product and sales management. Prior to joining the Futures Strategy Group, Mr. Buckley served as a manager with Deloitte Consulting, within the firm’s strategy and operations service line.

Mr. Buckley’s business management consulting experience has focused on organization and large project strategic planning. He has facilitated scenario-based strategic planning efforts with clients such as NASA, the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO – a joint agency committee commissioned by Congress) for the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NGATS), the United States Coast Guard and Project Horizon, a long-term interagency scenario planning exercise focused on global affairs.

As a manager for Deloitte Consulting, Mr. Buckley’s client engagements included: developing electronic marketing channels for a global telecommunications firm; conducting market demand assessments for strategic and resource planning for a business services firm; developing strategic positioning of new and existing security measures for a government agency; and assisting with design, deployment, and support of a financial reporting system for use by all U.S.-based financial institutions.

Previously, Mr. Buckley was a manager with Frito-Lay, Inc., where he designed and implemented business development strategies to improve territory sales, resulting in 43% growth over a two-year period while simultaneously improving profitability by 45%. He also collaborated on new product rollout plans and execution, and improved sales management analytics by developing a field-deployed model to calculate revenue trends, assess new product penetration, and identify product distribution opportunities.

Also within the consumer marketing industry, Mr. Buckley developed sales and promotional budget forecasts as a business analyst with The Dannon Company, Inc. As interim product manager, Mr. Buckley led a cross-functional team responsible for identifying and implementing product line cost-saving measures, resulting in $1.1 million in annual productivity savings through product reformulation and the development of new inventory management practices.

Mr. Buckley has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He has traveled extensively, and has been licensed as a private pilot.
